  • My role: I teach, run programs, and do administration for Concourse, MIT’s humanities-focused first year learning community.
  • Years at MIT: 2 (plus 4 as an undergrad).
  • Favorite hobbies or DIY projects: Not sure if they’re hobbies, but I spend most of my free time reading, walking, and swimming. I especially love open-water swimming.
  • Last great book you read: Fathers and Sons by Turgenev, though I’m reading Michael Chabon’s Adventures of Kavalier and Clay right now and it is delightful.
  • Favorite movie: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence.
  • Favorite cuisine: Ethiopian.
  • What was your first job? Cashier at Home Depot.

  • My role: I assist students and alums who are applying to medical school.
  • Years at MIT: 4
  • Favorite hobbies or DIY projects: My favorite hobbies are outdoor activities (going to the beach, park, and anything nature involved). I also like watching documentaries of different topics.
  • Dream vacation spot: Bora Bora.
  • Best Halloween costume you’ve ever had: Scream costume.
  • What was your first job? Being a summer camp counselor for a basketball camp.

  • Favorite movie: Forrest Gump.
  • Music or musicians/bands/groups you love: Gregory Alan Isakov, Zack Bryan, Luke Combs, Treaty Oak Revival, Ian Munsick, Tyler Childers.

Dana Riechman

International Student Programming Administrator & Advisor
MIT International Students Office

  • My role: My role comprises outreach and developing programs to help international students acclimate to the U.S. and MIT; I also advise/process immigration documents for students in the SHASS departments.
  • Years at MIT: It will be 10 years in January in this position! From 2009-2011, I also used to work for the MIT International Scholars Office (part-time office assistant) and MIT Spouses & Partners Connect (intern and then interim program manager during my supervisor’s maternity leave).
  • Favorite hobbies or DIY projects: Travel. Playing guitar/singing. Latin partner dancing.
  • Favorite movie: Before Sunrise and Before Sunset
  • Music or musicians/bands/groups you love: Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, and many other singer/songwriters such as Dar Williams and Patty Griffin.
  • Favorite food or cuisine: Love trying new restaurants and different cuisines, but my favorites are Italian, Mediterranean, and Mexican (street tacos and pozole are the best…)
  • Most influential person in your life: My mom. She encouraged me to travel and step outside my comfort zone, first by living for a month with a German host family right after high school. She herself had been assigned a Peace Corps assignment in Côte d’Ivoire but ended up not going. My transformative experience in Germany ignited my passion for international travel and interest in learning different languages.
