Introducing Graduation Planning and Support

In 2023, GUE’s Visiting Committee identified a key priority: to “invest in the near-term in the IT infrastructure and systems needed for delivering enhanced student services, which include systems that interface with one another both across GUE offices and the Institute at large.”

Now, the implementation team is in the beginning stages of rolling out a new student systems enhancement called Graduation Planning and Support (GPS), powered by Stellic, an online platform offering a degree audit tool and a comprehensive student advising and engagement feature for both undergraduate and graduate students.

GPS is a student-driven user interface that will provide the community with synergies produced by combining audit and advising in one unified solution. The goal is to retire the fragmented degree auditing environment and eliminate redundant department shadow systems with a unified platform. This will streamline advising workflows, enhance data integrity, and improve institutional efficiency into one unified solution.

GPS will work alongside MITSIS to provide a more user-friendly way to view degree progress and plan courses. While it helps students and advisors with planning and audits, all official records—like enrollment, grades, transcripts, and financial information—will still be managed in MITSIS.

The MIT GPS team’s work will continue with additional phases in the coming months.
